Calcium-magnesium carbonate (CaMg(CO3 )2 ), as an important calcium-magnesium resource, due to its high refractori ness, alkaline properties and calcium-magnesium composite composition, is widely used in metallurgy, refractory materials, building materials, chemical industry,

agriculture and other fields. The details are as follows.

Appli ti fi ld

Spe ifi appli ati s

Uses a d I st u ti

Metallurgical industry

Steelmaking slag and furnace protection

Light-burned dolomite (calcined at 700-900 .C) as a converter slagging agent increases MgO content in the slag (8%-12%), reduces lining erosion, and extends converter life by 30%-50%; It consumes 80-100kg per ton of steel and promotes desulfurization and

dephosphorization (such as 60kg per ton for Anyang Iron and Steel sintered ore).

Metallurgical industry

Iron-making fluxes

As a flux for sinter (add 3%-10%), neutralize acidic gangue (SiO2 ), improve sinter reduction, and reduce low-temperature pulverization (such as Wuhan Iron and steel sinter consumption of 55-63kg/t).

Metallurgical industry

Magnesium smelting feedstock

The core raw material for metallic magnesium smelting (electrolysis/silicon thermal reduction) requires 10 tons of dolomite (particle size 30-120mm) per ton of metallic magnesium, supporting more than 80% of global magnesium production (mainly in China).

Refractory materials

Dolomite brick series

Dolomite bricks (CaO≥40%, MgO≥35%) : used in stainless steel refining furnaces (AOD, VOD) and cement kiln firing zones to adsorb impurities in molten steel; It is used in 86% of cement kilns in Europe and America.

Magnesia-calcium brick/magnesia-dolomite brick (CaO 20%-30%) : A substitute for magnesia-chrome brick for AOD lining, with a service life of 189 furnaces in Taiyuan Iron & Steel.

Refractory materials

Unshaped refractory materials

Magnesium-calcium-iron sand ramming material: bottom material for electric furnaces, Baosteel 150t electric furnace life 1087 times, Wuyang Iron & Steel 90t electric furnace life over 1500 times.

Spray patching material: Converter, ladle slag line repair, excellent resistance to slag erosion.

Refractory materials

New type of composite refractory material

Synthesized magnesium-aluminum spinel-containing calcium aluminate cement (CMA) for high-temperature kilns, with a 30% improvement in thermal shock resistance and a 20% reduction in cost.

Building materials industry

Cement production

Adding 40% dolomite to cement accelerates hydration and enhances early strength; Dolomite bricks in the firing zone of cement kilns react with C2 S to form C3 S, extending the lifespan of the kilns.

Building materials industry

Glass manufacturing

Providing CaO and MgO, reducing high-temperature viscosity (reducing energy consumption by 15%), enhancing glass erosion resistance and mechanical strength for bottle and jar glass, float glass (replacing part of soda ash, reducing costs by 5%-8%).

Building materials industry

Ceramic body glaze

Substitute talc and calcite in the body, lower firing temperature by 50-80 .C, and promote mullite formation; Reduce crystallization and smoke in the glaze and enhance gloss for fast-firing ceramics.

Building materials industry

Magnesium oxychloride cement

Calcined dolomite to make caustic powder to prepare magnesium oxychloride cement for floor and road repair, with compressive strength up to 80MPa, fireproof and mothproof, and lower cost than traditional cement.

Chemical industry

Magnesium salt production

Magnesium sulfate: Produced by the reaction of 30% dilute sulfuric acid, used in medicine, fertilizer, ceramic glaze.

Light magnesium carbonate: Produced by carbonization, used as a rubber reinforcing agent and fireproof material, with an annual output of over 500,000 tons (China accounts for 60% of global capacity).

Magnesium hydroxide: Made by ammonification, an environmentally friendly flame retardant that replaces aluminium hydroxide and reduces smoke density by 40%.

Chemical industry

Fillers and additives

Rubber/paper fillers: Replace part of titanium dioxide to improve color and weather resistance and reduce oil absorption by 10%-15% for sealants, detergents.

Pesticide carrier: 0.8-1.2μm particles adsorb active ingredients of pesticides, prolong efficacy and reduce caking.

Agricultural

Soil improvement and yield increase

Neutralization of acidic soil: Apply 50-100kg of dolomite powder (particle size < 2mm) per mu to adjust pH to 6.0-6.2 and increase crop yield by 15%-40%.

Fertilizer efficiency enhancement: When combined with urea, slow-release nutrients increase nitrogen fertilizer utilization by 12%-18%.

Other featured applications

Blast furnace plugging materials

Wuhan Iron and Steel uses 0-30mm dolomite to directly block iron water holes, which has better resistance to erosion than traditional materials.

Other featured applications

Environmentally friendly desulfurization

High-temperature calcination (1500 .C) generates water-resistant CaO-MgO for industrial flue gas desulfurization, with a sulfur absorption rate of 92% (calcium utilization rate 25% higher than limestone).
